This replaced the old church with the same name in 1963, and was elevated to See of the diocese in 1970; located in the largest parish of the city, it is a concrete building on a rectangular plan, covered with a very steep, saddleback roof, whose construction was supervised by the parish priest Teixeira Neves. According to Castro Rodrigues, it was designed by Mário de Oliveira (from the Ministry of Overseas Affairs), inspired by the church of Sumbe.
