Cinema Atlântico (former Cinema Império)
Luanda [São Paulo de Luanda], Luanda, Angola
Equipment and Infrastructures
The building of the Cinema Atlântico, open and roofed, is typical of open-air esplanade cinemas in humid tropical climates. It was built in 1964 (project by architect António Ribeiro dos Santos and engineer Eduardo Paulino) and displays a feature unique in Luanda – its roof is composed of suspended metal trusses supported by thick steel rods connected to small, sloping pillars a metre off the ground.
