Equipment and Infrastructures

The People’s House [Casa do Povo] is situated somewhat peripherally with respect to the village centre. It is a rectangular building arranged around a patio which provides access to various community support spaces. The programme of the People’s House comprises a multipurpose hall on the left side of the patio, with activity support rooms on the opposite side. The patio itself functions as a reception and social space. It has a running balcony and a support space on the side opposite the main entrance. This programme is common among such constructions in Portugal and is also used at its counterpart in Taleigao. The building has undergone no major changes, though the volume in back, where the stage support spaces function, was presumably added at a later date. The designer is unknown; it is nevertheless one of the most interesting examples of modernist architecture in Goan territory.
