Waku Kungo [Colonato da Cela], Kwanza Sul, Angola
Equipment and Infrastructures
Built in the 1960s, it promotes tourism in a colony essentially focused on work. An isolated building surrounded by a garden, it is composed of a single volume and displays a formal relation of compromise between the official style and a more contemporary repertoire. Its two floors are differentiated by the different sizes and shapes of window openings but the regular and repetitative rhythm is broken by the entrance which is pierced by a wide bay and canopy. The functional arrangement of the building can clearly be seen on the ground floor, which is more public and exposed to the exterior and more restrained on the first floor in the area of the rooms. In 2008, renovation and enlargement works were being carried out at Pousada da Cela.
